$1.99M minimalist home near Saline could be your private art gallery

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A custom-built contemporary home near Saline offers minimalist architecture, a practical floorplan and modern amenities.

The home at 1735 Fairview Court in Washtenaw County’s Lodi Township features 5,600 square foot of space, four bedrooms, four full and two half baths and commercial-grade steel and concrete construction. Listed at $1,995,000 by Elizabeth Brien of Reinhart Realtors, it’s MLive’s House of the Week. Homes of various styles and prices from across the state are showcased every Wednesday.

The home, designed by Bloomfield-based Young & Young Architects, features a minimalist design in pure white and a bright, open concept interior with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Brookside Golf Course.

Architect Roger Young worked with the seller to build the contemporary home in 2014. The rear-facing floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a wooded corner of the gold course, providing verdant views beyond the spacious backyard over a spit-rail fence.

A clean, bright interior aesthetic provides plenty of space to showcase interior design accents, with wall fixtures strategically positioned and outlets inset into floors to provide maximum space for hanging art.

“They really wanted clean, simple but sophisticated lines,” Brien said. “Everything is clean lines – less disruption to the walls so you can put up more artwork.”

On entering the foyer through the custom side-lit front door, guests are greeted with a panoramic view through the open-concept great room and out over the golf course through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Black river stones fill decorative troughs along the foyer wall and stairwell an provide an accent to the pure white walls and white recycled glass flooring.

The great room features a linear gas fireplace built into one wall and a hidden television that rises out of a pedestal on command, while accent walls illuminated by custom light fixtures provide more area for artwork.

Motorized shades across the main and lower floors offer privacy, while transom windows on the east-facing side of the home allow for natural light at any hour. Both the main and lower floors feature radiant in-floor heating with zone control.

The great room flows into a dining area and gourmet kitchen, which features Cambria quartz countertops, a center island with bar seating and custom cabinetry with motorized cabinet doors and soft-close drawers with hidden trays.

Miele appliances include an induction cooktop, two dishwashers, speed oven, convection oven and the hidden refrigerator and freezer. A matching door mirroring the refrigerator and freezer opens to reveal a spacious hidden pantry with built-in shelving.

The home’s primary suite features a floating bed frame, spacious master bath with a spa tub, wet sauna and rainfall shower head and a custom California walk-through closet. A second deck accessible through a sliding glass wall comes pre-plumbed for an inset hot tub. Lighting, motorized shades and other smart home features are linked via a Control 4 system.

The main floor also features a pair of powder room half-baths, main floor laundry with built-in cabinetry and access to the rear patio and attached three-car garage.

A set of floating stairs leads to the home’s upper level, which features two carpeted bedrooms with walk-in closets and ensuite baths, a common lounge area and an additional laundry room with all the necessary plumbing to be converted to an additional full bath. Each bedroom features a panoramic view of the home’s backyard and east-facing transom windows flood the upper floor with natural light.

The home’s lower level features a spacious game room with walk-out patio access and nine-foot ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows. A fourth bedroom offers walk-out patio access and a full ensuite bath, while an office and connected exercise room feature additional plumbing for conversion into an art studio. Dual utility rooms on opposite ends of the home and a finished storm shelter room offer plenty of storage space on the lower level.

The home also features a 27-kilowatt whole-house generator, zone-controlled full-lawn sprinkler system, smart control of TVs, lighting, and garage doors and a robust security system. Low-E windows and in-floor heating as well as under-slab insulation contribute to the home’s energy efficiency.

Located in the Brookview Highlands neighborhood, the home shares Fairview Court with an array of custom homes each on an acre or more. Maple Road provides easy low-traffic access to either Ann Arbor or Saline, and the home is within the Saline School District.

“It’s kind of off the beaten track, but close to everything,” Brien said. “I could see someone from the east or west coast coming here, someone whose kids have grown up and they want to change their lifestyle, or a professor. It could work well for so many people, because it’s the kind of house that will speak to a lot of people.”
