30th Indian Plumbing Conference Concludes: Water – The New Currency

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]November 30th: The 30th Indian Sanitation Conference has successfully concluded with an impressive total attendance of over 7,520 participants including delegates, expert speakers, construction industry leaders, government officials from water resources departments, water innovation professionals and visitors. The conference, opened by Harkara Venugopal Rao, Advisor to the Government of Telangana, with Soren Norrelund Kannik-Marquardsen from the Danish Embassy as the keynote speaker, revolved around the theme “Water – the new currency”.

The event featured a comprehensive parallel exhibition covering over 5,325 square meters with more than 95 exhibitors presenting innovative technologies in water and wastewater treatment. The conference was supported by 22 industry partners, demonstrating strong industry-wide collaboration. A networking dinner and music evening on November 21 brought together over 300 professionals from the construction and water industries.

A highlight of the conference was the grand finale of the Indian Plumbing Professional League (IPPL) 2024, which took place on the third day. The competition featured finalists from 13 cities, combining fun, learning and quiz elements to promote knowledge sharing within the industry. Ms. M. Shanmugha Priya and Ms. V. Pushpa from Pondicherry emerged as quiz winners while teams from Pune and Mumbai secured second and third positions respectively.

The Indian Plumbing Association's Educational Wall served as a powerful awareness tool and showcased the water footprint of everyday objects. The exhibition showed impressive statistics on water consumption in product production: a single cotton T-shirt requires 2,720 liters of water, a pair of jeans uses 10,850 liters and the production of a smartphone requires 12,760 liters of water.

Gurmit Singh Arora, National President, Indian Plumbing Association, emphasized the importance of the conference and said, “This conference is more than an event – it is a clarion call for water conservation.” We are not just discussing pipes and fittings; We develop strategies to conserve our most valuable resource.
