AED demands roll back of proposed hike in GST on LEDs, water pumps – Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism

JAMMU, July 2: The Association of Electric Dealers (AED), Jammu, today called for a rollback of proposed increases in GST rates for energy-saving LEDs, water pumps and solar water heater systems.
The claim was made during a meeting of the association’s executive body. During the meeting, all members discussed in detail the proposed increase in GST from 12% to 18% for LEDs and water pumps and 5% to 12% for solar water heater systems.
The speakers said that the trend of using LEDs instead of incandescent bulbs was successfully popularized by providing huge subsidies from the government and we cannot deny that LEDs have contributed to the electrification of rural India by relieving the burden of electricity have reduced infrastructure.
“All of this was made possible by a supportive environment created by all stakeholders, including manufacturers, who were supplying LEDs at competitive prices with warranties of one to two years,” they said, adding the GST Council’s decision on the proposed increase in GST -Adding sets of LEDs, water pumps and solar water heaters is arbitrary and not in favor of consumers.
AED members said any change to the GST would result in increased costs for consumers that they felt should have been avoided from now on. They appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to look favorably on the matter and give instructions to the GST Council to reconsider and reverse the proposed increase.
Present at the meeting were Dinesh Gupta (President), Ravi Gupta (Vice President), Atul Sharma (Secretary General), Pritam Rohmetra (Secretary), Vishal Mahajan (Treasurer) and Kanwal Jeet Singh (Patron).
