Atmos Energy replacing pipes throughout Greeley – Greeley Tribune

Atmos Energy began pipe replacements this year and plans to install approximately 353 new natural gas service lines.

Atmos has plans for four pipe replacement projects:

  1. Project 1, which began Monday and will run through May, will target specific neighborhoods east and southeast of the University of Northern Colorado campus.
  2. Project 2 will cover certain homes north of Project 1 from May 23rd through June.
  3. Project 3, June 27-August, covers certain customers south of Project 1.
  4. Project 4 will cover select homes northeast of US 34 and 35th Avenues from September 12th through October.

According to a press release, the project aims to increase the safety and reliability of Atmos’ natural gas system while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“Pipeline replacement reduces leaks and methane emissions,” Atmos spokesman Kurtis Paradisa said in the release. “We track and report greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule, which requires the reporting of greenhouse gas data and other relevant information from major sources and suppliers in the United States. In addition, all of our operational departments report to various government agencies that have environmental responsibilities for our activities.”

Crews replace natural gas mains and service lines connected to customers’ gas meters. Door signs will be placed on affected customers’ homes before work begins, and construction signs will be placed in all affected neighborhoods.

“We are working closely with Greeley City officials and our local fire department to minimize disruptions that may accompany these upgrades,” said Paradisa.
