There is no real Barley MacTavish. This fund was established by an anonymous donor and is maintained with private financial support as well as donations from local residents during the holiday season. The project was carried out to make Midland a slightly better place to live. Letters to Barley are not from actual applicants but represent typical requests.
At the age of 76 I am a so-called boomer. I was able to live on my Social Security disability check. My wife died 12 years ago and we had no children. I’m alone here.
My old water heater needs to be replaced. The plumber gave me an estimate for a new installation. I was shocked to hear the decal price and labor cost to take care of it. I don’t have that kind of excess money.
I called other agencies and churches to see if they could help me. Two churches can contribute but not cover everything. You suggested I contact you, Barley. I would appreciate any help you could offer me. Many Thanks.
I understand your surprise at the price of a new water heater. I’ll send the plumber a check to install a new one. It is advisable to look for other resources in our community. I am relieved that they can help you with additional costs. Unexpected emergencies happen to all of us. Best wishes.
