A plumber remains in the hospital after attacking a man with a metal bat at Blue Point.

Thomas Buckleman told News 12 that he thought he would die during Monday night’s attack.

He says he took his plumbing tools out of the car and then the man started swinging a bat at him.

“I don’t know how many times I was hit because I kept crying and I managed to fight it off and ran in,” says Buckleman.

He managed to lock himself in a bathroom in the building when neighbors called 911 and Buckleman called his wife.

Police arrested Demond Small, 43, a man who, according to neighbors, was crouching in the house behind the property.

According to court records, Small has a long criminal record but was not required to leave bail after his last arrest.

“This guy shouldn’t have taken to the streets, mostly because I wasn’t even a threat to him,” says Buckleman. “I was literally carrying my tools around the building and he attacked me violently with a baseball bat.”

Buckleman now has three fractures of his skull and blood in his brain.

Small has been charged with first degree assault and is currently being held on bail of $ 75,000.
