A large 20cm water circulation pipe at Belmond’s Luick Swimming Pool collapsed over the winter causing a major mess in late May when the filtration system was switched on.
City workers filled the pool last month and then started the pumps. Geysers of water and earth spouted from cracks in the concrete deck near the diving platform at the deep end.
The concrete was removed on June 7 and the destroyed pipe was discovered. Spare parts have been ordered, but delivery is uncertain. Once the repair is complete, the pool will need to run for a week to even out the chemicals.
Watch out for details on when the pool will open for the summer.
