The municipality will decide during next week's council meeting whether to adopt a new approach to managing the island's numerous water systems.
Bowen's seven water systems are currently overseen by Local Advisory Committees (LACs), which are made up of residents of those neighborhoods and a council representative. These LACs are responsible for reviewing utility budgets and advising council on financial and other issues related to water operations.
Under the proposed model, found in the agenda packet for the July 8 council meeting, this reporting would now go directly to council, effectively ending the LAC model. The bylaw establishing the LAC would be repealed and no LAC meetings would be held in the future. Instead, community information sessions will be held to keep residents informed of any changes or updates to water issues or developments in the neighborhood.
The established Local Service Areas (LSAs) would remain in place along with all current LSA budgets and rates.
The meeting will take place on Monday at 1 p.m.
