Burst frozen pipes put Over Easy restaurant partly under water

Over Easy restaurant has just closed on Sunday afternoon and workers were mopping up when suddenly water shot out of the wall. “As the water keeps getting higher, you don’t know when it will stop,” said owner Nick Bartholomew. He didn’t order frozen pipes as a special dish for his West Omaha brunch on Sunday afternoon. “We have absorbed 4-6 inches of standing water here on the ground,” said Bartholomew. Little did he know that the pipes would burst. “The water went from a light trickle to a downpour from this side of the kitchen forward,” said Bartholomew. A restoration team quickly set to work on the clean-up. Instead of customers, big fans sit in the dining room. The crews removed some drywall, insulation and ceilings. “Something like that scares us at first,” said the owner. Bartholomew said he didn’t really get warm against the bitter January cold. Six years ago, a fire destroyed Bartholomew’s restaurant in the Old Market building on 11th and Howard Streets, which housed M’s Pub and Bartholomew’s Restaurant Market House. “The feeling wasn’t that surreal this time as we’d been there before and had the experience and what happened in the past we knew who to turn to,” he said. Whether it was fire or flooding from frozen pipes, Bartholomew said he always wants to serve good food to his friends who have become customers. “We hope it doesn’t take long but we look forward to returning,” he said. The leftover food is not wasted. Bartholomew gave it to the Franciscan House in Siena. He hopes to be open again in a few months.
