Burst pipe repairs complete but Plumstead High Street to remain closed this weekend

Thames Water has completed repairs to a broken water pipe on Plumstead High Street – but the road is not expected to reopen until the end of this week.

The road has been closed to traffic since December 31 while crews worked to repair the damage and make the area safe.

The burst pipe initially led to road closures and interruptions to the water supply for residents.

The closure extends between St Nicholas Road and Kashgar Road, with diversions for drivers and buses.

Bus lines 96, 99, 177, 180, 422, 469 and the N1 night service are affected.

Drivers and public transport users are advised to allow more time for their journeys.

The repair location is at What3Words: home.latter.slope.

Thames Water apologized for the disruption and said it was working to reopen the road as quickly as possible.

The website is expected to be completed by Sunday, January 5th.

Further updates will be posted on the Thames Water website.

A Thames Water spokesman said: “We have been on site since December 31st repairing a broken water main on Plumstead High Street.

“We have now completed our repairs and will reopen the road later today.

“Unfortunately we had to close the road to traffic (What3Words: Home.Latter.Slope) to ensure everyone’s safety. We will maintain diversions until the road is complete.

“We want the site to be completely cleared by Sunday, January 5th.

“If you are traveling in the area, please allow extra time. We will update this page regularly with our progress.”
