Pensacola Snow Storm offers residents an entertaining opportunity
Here are some of our best photos from the snowfall on Tuesday, recorded by employees photographers and pensacola News Journal Readers.
The Pensacola area was transformed into a winter wonderland this week, together with a large part of the Panhandle, to fully exploit the leisure that has to offer the snow -covered conditions. As soon as the memory moming moments and the fun have subsided, the infrastructure susceptible to the cold that caused problems for people throughout the region.
On Wednesday evening there were over 2,000 inhabitants in the Escambia district and 2,350 in Santa Rosa without electricity. In the following days, when the temperatures were in the teenagers overnight, failed water pipes and other sanitary problems were the latest headache for the residents – even for those who have never lost their power.
“The majority of the things we got are frozen water pipes where people cannot get water and purpe. We had some cases in which fire pipes were frozen,” said Chad Downs, owner of Downs Plumbing & Gas in Bellview.
Danglist conditions due to icy roads kept the residents home and those affected many local companies, but also made it difficult for emergency services to react to all service calls they received.
The news journal turned to more than a dozen sanitary company, which said that Burst Pipes is the main problem with which they have to do with the cold weather this week. Although road conditions got significantly better by Friday morning, the service for Burst pipes in the region still had the plumber in frenzy.
A representative of the aggressive plumber, which is located in Goulding, said that in the past few days they have had over 100 calls to Burst pipes. In the middle of Fridays they had 40 calls to Burst pipes that day.
Burst pipes were the dominant problem with which the plumber in the region were exposed, but freezing and falling in the water systems in the water systems were also recurring problems. Some incidents with sewage pipes have also appeared because the cold weather and constipation is intensively.
Residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa County are not the only ones in the northwest of Florida that deal with these problems. A representative of Roto-Roter informed the News Journal that they receive demands for burst pipes and related problems to the destin.
Why frozen pipes?
Pipes are particularly susceptible to burst in cold weather, since the water extends when freezing, which increasingly exerts more pressure on the container that holds this water.
If there are pipes in areas that are not resistant to the cold, such as unnoticed, unheated or outside of rooms, they are more likely to freeze and cause problems. If you turn on a tap in your house and only give a drop or watercorn, you will probably have a frozen tube.
If you notice a frozen tube in your house, it is recommended to switch off your waterline and call your plumber in front of the pipe, which represents a much more difficult problem.
The plumber planned to continue to react to calls in the counties Escambia and Santa Rosa at the weekend, and the response times for problems related to sanitary in the next few days will mainly depend on the emergency level in their house, as the technicians are in the worst Condition first.
