Burst water pipe: Kirkcaldy High Street remains closed as emergency repairs continue

The eastern end of the road was blocked off with water from several drains.

Some residents and businesses in the area are currently without water.

Scottish Water is on-site with teams doing repairs and digging up part of the roadside to fix the problem.

It estimates the full repair is expected to take four and a half hours.

The area is expected to remain closed for most of the evening.

Scottish Police confirmed they were there at around 12:50 p.m. today following initial reports of problems.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said, “We are currently working on repairing a space on a 20-inch pipe.

“The supply of around 70 properties is affected and we are currently arranging bottled water for the affected customers.

“Local customers may experience some effects on their normal water supplies, including lower water pressures, discolored or cloudy water.

“As soon as we have excavated the affected area, we will provide information on the estimated repair time on our website.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and will work to repair the outbreak as soon as possible.”

All traffic will be diverted out of the closed bar area at Kirk Wynd.

Betty Nicols Pub is among the companies affected. On a social media statement, the owners said, “Due to a waterfall in the High Street, Scottish Water turned off the water to do a repair.

“Therefore we have no running water and are closed until noon on Thursday.

“We apologize for any inconvenience.”
