City of Bloomer water has high lead levels even after replacing pipes

BLOOMER (WQOW) – The town of Bloomer warns residents that their water may contain high levels of lead.

According to samples taken by the city in the fall, lead levels may not be safe.

According to the CDC, a safe amount of lead in water is between zero and 15 micrograms per liter. Some samples of Bloomer water showed 20 micrograms of lead per liter, which is above the safety limit.

These numbers mean the city needs to take further action and is currently working with the DNR to resolve the issue.

City officials say they removed all known lead pipes that were left in the water system in the fall, but that was before this final sampling.

Residents who use city water will receive an information leaflet on their January utility bill.
