LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – The city of Longview is one of several East Texas cities searching for lead pipes on both the city and customer sides of the line.
Both EPS and TCEQ have banned the use of lead pipes in water systems. The city said lead pipes have been replaced throughout the city over the years.
“So far in our inventory, we haven't found any lead in the system. We have some that we find suspect and then we send people out to check them and no, it's usually not lead,” said Dewayne Archer, the city's public works director. “The inventory is almost complete, so we can easily meet the October deadline. Once we have the data, we'll figure out what to do next.”
If there are lead pipes on the residential side, the owner is responsible for them. Authorities expect to receive a grant to help homeowners with these repairs.
