Conor McGregor borrowed £60 for plumbing tools before becoming UFC legend – now he’s on a yacht waiting for fight news

Conor McGregor has come a long way since his days as an apprentice plumber.

Before becoming the UFC's first two-weight champion, McGregor pursued a very different career, borrowing money to acquire the tools necessary for his chosen profession.

“Notorious” also trained at the Crumlin boxing gym under Olympian Phil Sutcliffe and Patrick “Bra” Brady, who earned his living as a plumber.

Bra lent McGregor 70 euros (60 pounds) to buy some tools, promising to pay the money back – but the highest-earning athlete of 2021 forgot about the debt for 15 years.

“I've been a plumber all my life and am now retired, but Conor wanted to be a plumber, so when he started at 16 I told him I'd get him his tools,” Bra told SunSport.

“I knew a guy in the trade who could get me tools cheaply.

“I said I would get him the tools and he could pay me back week by week because he used to be with the club.

“I asked, 'Do you have it?' He said, 'Yes, I'll pay you back.' But he never did.”

In 2017, McGregor earned $100 million for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.

After being knocked out in the tenth round on his debut in the square circle, the Irishman regretted not working with his old boxing coaches and started training with Sutcliffe and Bra again.

McGregor compensated them for their hours by spending thousands on renovating the gym.

The 36-year-old even boxed at the club show to raise money and provide the coaches with custom tracksuits, but he still didn't give Bra his money back.

He added: “It was only 15 years later that he paid me back because he wanted to be on the show.

“He gave us some stuff, a new ring and stuff like that, tracksuits and all that. He said, 'Are you happy with this?'

“I said, 'Yes, but one more thing… I want my 70 pounds!'”

Stephen Thompson advises Michael Chandler to wait for a UFC fight with Conor McGregor!

McGregor wrote a check to pay off his long-standing debt, and the two men hilariously posed for a photo with it together.

Bra did not demand any interest, and Mystic Mac would have had no problem paying it either, as he is now the head of a corporate empire and has a fortune of £200 million.

McGregor bought a Lamborghini superyacht for £2.9 million and spent most of his three-year injury layoff sailing around in boats.

A fight with Michael Chandler is booked and he is currently awaiting a new date from UFC boss Dana White, who recently hinted that news about the fight against McGregor was imminent.

Meanwhile, McGregor is at sea with his family on a large boat.

On Friday, he sent X a video showing himself sliding down an inflatable slide attached to the giant ship.

His fans are closely following his social media accounts because it seems to be only a matter of time before he reveals exactly when his highly anticipated comeback fight will take place.
