Fifteen years after borrowing a paltry £60 to buy plumbing tools and equipment for his failed plumbing apprenticeship, Conor McGregor has now fully repaid the loan to a former friend – amid ongoing speculation about his return to the Octagon.
McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight champion and featherweight titleholder, has been out of action since headlining UFC 264 in 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in a first-round TKO loss to former interim champion Dustin Poirier.
And after being forced to return to fighting three years after his long layoff, former two-weight champion McGregor suffered a broken toe on the same foot where he previously suffered a leg injury, just two weeks after moving up to the welterweight weight class in a UFC 303 comeback against Michael Chandler in late June during International Fight Week.
Conor McGregor finally pays back £60 debt for plumbing tools
But earlier this week, McGregor, who trained as a plumber in his teens, was forced to borrow £60 from a colleague, Patrick Brady, to buy tools for his trade.

And 15 years later, the Crumlin counter-attacker has finally rewarded Brady's patience by repaying the loan in full.
“I've been a plumber all my life and I'm retired now, but Conor (McGregor) wanted to be a plumber, so when he started at 16, I told him I'd get him his tools,” Brady said in a recent interview with the Sun.
“I knew a guy who worked in the industry and could get the tools cheap,” Brady explained. “I said I would get him the tools and he could pay me back week by week because he used to be at the club (Crumlin Boxing Club). I said, 'Do you have them?' He said, 'Yeah, I'll pay you back.' But he never did.”
And years later, after training with Brady and his boxing coach Phil Sutcliffe ahead of his infamous boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, McGregor invested considerable sums in the Crumlin gym – before paying off his £60k debt.
“15 years later he (Conor McGregor) paid me back, he wanted to be on the show at the time,” Brady explained. “He gave us a few things, a new ring and things like that, tracksuits and stuff. He said, 'Are you happy with that?' I said, 'Yeah, but one more thing – I want my £70.'”
