SANDY, Utah, June 3, 2022 (Gephardt Daily/Bill’s Marketplace) — LeaAnne and Ken Chapman, owners of Connect Building Services, have long been recognized by their customers as providing the best, most honest and reliable electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning Respectable businesses on Sandy and the Wasatch front find great satisfaction in a job well done.

For this bar to be met, a few things have to happen: First, the clients have to be completely satisfied with the job from start to finish. Achieving this benchmark is the company’s top priority and the foundation of its success. Second, Connect Building Services employees need to share in the satisfaction and know how important their contribution is to the overall success of the company.

“We are in business for our customers and our employees,” LeaAnne said of the Sandy-based company, “and as owners, we want it to be a win-win-win for all three.

“Customers win because Connect Building Services offers first class service. CBS also offers its customers a mini-training on the nature of repairs so they can make an informed decision about the solutions they offer. Customers also gain by being able to enjoy the upbeat attitude of Connect’s staff, smart people who offer serious help while keeping the mood light.

“As a team, we try to maintain a sense of humor,” said LeaAnne. “You have to be able to laugh a little, keep it light and get it done.”

Connect Building Services’ approximately 18 employees are trained in technical and job skills each week, and the Chapmans have seen many of their employees gain focus and confidence to improve all areas of their lives, LeaAnne said.

That’s why they stand behind their employees’ work with some of the most comprehensive warranties and guarantees in the industry.

“We are a team and a family,” LeaAnne said of her staff. “We work towards a common goal, empowering each team member, celebrating successes, overcoming failures and looking for reasons to praise each other, not criticize them.”

“And we take care of each other,” Ken interjected.

“And have fun,” added LeaAnne.

And for the Chapmans, who have been married nearly 32 years and have five adult children, the reward is a growing business and excellent community reputation.

The dream began in 1996 when the young couple left Tucson, where Ken had worked at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, with two young children.

“We moved up here with a job, a contractor, who was like, ‘Hey, do you want to do my electrics?'” LeaAnne said.

The couple wanted to move to Utah to be closer to family, and a missionary aunt and uncle offered them a lease.

“So we lived there and started doing business, then we did the one job, and more jobs kept coming,” Ken said. “A guy from our neighborhood came up to us and said, ‘Hey, I’m building houses, so give me a call as soon as you get your driver’s license and insurance. So I did, and then we took off and actually took over the account, done all their houses.

That job lasted 12 years, until 2008 and the recession that shut down many businesses, including her employer. It was at this point that the Chapmans decided to expand their services into plumbing and HVAC, making the switch from Current Electrical Systems to Connect Business Services.

“We rebranded because we did all four trades,” LeaAnne said of the 2008 expansion and name change. “We branched out and we survived. We wanted to have more than one leg, just like a table or a stool. You can’t do that with one leg.”

“It’s hard to balance it with just one leg,” Ken added, laughing.

Growth continued with a contract to maintain cooling, heating, electrical and plumbing systems at 40 Panda Express locations, LeaAnne said, adding that the contract was an ongoing Connect Building Services contract.

More recently, residential services jobs have equaled or surpassed commercial contracts as Connect’s primary focus.

Customers leave glowing 5-star reviews:

● “This team gets the job done and does it well,” wrote John Millard. “And when vendor issues arise, they don’t try to pass the buck. You stay on top of things until the job is well done!”

● “Communication was excellent,” wrote Gail Rugg. “Schawn was friendly and professional. He answered all of my questions and addressed all of my concerns without making me feel stupid. He was very respectful. I didn’t feel like he would gouge me with the price in the estimate, he didn’t give me a long list of extras I didn’t need just to fatten his wallet. I think the estimate is fair and I hope to start my project soon!”

● “We recently released Connect to check out some electrical issues,” wrote Gordon Richards. “They were very professional and thorough and discovered faulty wiring in an outlet that was causing overheating that would have resulted in an electrical fire. Your thoroughness saved us from a much more serious problem. We really enjoyed working with Connect.”

● “I would and will recommend Connect to everyone,” wrote JR Reale. “They were quick, polite and went above and beyond when they did my full home repipe. I’ve had offers from several of the “big plumbing companies”. They sent out salespeople, not a plumber. Schawn was knowledgeable and I felt confident after his offer. Jose and Ethan were polite and answered all of my questions. I’m not done with my remodel, I guarantee I’ll call you back about my new shower.”

● “I have hired this company several times and each time these people are on time and do a great job at a fair price,” Chism Yeaman wrote. “Your technicians are always polite, professional and top notch people. They always get the job done right and really make sure you are happy with the service.”
