The clogged street canyons and sewers in different parts of the city are calling for attention. Waste is collected in the drains that run through some parts of the city.

During the last rainy season, waterlogging was observed in various parts of the city because the street canyons, sewers and drains were not cleaned in time. Now residents want the city council to take all necessary steps to ensure that all sewers and drains in the city are desludged before the rainy season.

Waterlogging was commonly observed in Dholewal Chowk, Samrala Chowk, Chaura Bazar, near the Bell Tower, Damoria Bridge, Model City, Rani Jhansi Road, Dhandari, Hambran Road, and a number of other areas during the Precious Rainy Season.

At present, a drain running near the Bhadaur House has been heavily flooded with solid waste because the citizen body has paid no attention to it. The situation of a drain flowing through Shivaji Nagar is similar, but work is also being done to cover the drain.

Whenever it rains heavily, sewage flows back to homes in multiple areas due to clogged sewer lines. The problem of sewer overflow when it rains is common on Chandigarh Road, Panj Peer Road, and several other areas.

Residents of Dhandari Khurd, the New Durga Colony and several other colonies have complained of clogged sewers. Residents in some areas also complain that sewage pipes are not desludged in a timely manner.

Satish Thaman, a resident of Rishi Nagar, Ludhiana, said, “Street canyons are currently congested in a number of areas. Residents complain about clogged sewers in various areas. We have experienced great waterlogging in various parts of the city even after a short period of rain in the past. “

Thaman said, “The work to clean up the street canyons and all drains in the city should be done before the rainy season. The machines in all sewage treatment plants should be made functional. The departments concerned should take reasonable precautions to avoid waterlogging in urban areas. “

A former city councilor, Indian Aggarwal, said: “The MC has published tenders for cleaning various sewer lines with super suction machines. All of this work must be completed before the rainy season. The gutters in all areas should be cleaned in good time. The MC should also ensure that small drains that run through different areas of the city are cleaned. “

According to information, around 89 percent of the urban areas did not have a storm sewer system. The MC had previously drawn up a plan to install a storm sewer system across the city, but the project couldn’t see the light of day due to a lack of funds.

Superintendent Engineer Rajinder Singh said: “The MC chief has already given instructions to all officers concerned to ensure the cleaning of the gutters, drains and sewers in the city.”

“We are already driving to purify Buddha Nullah. MC officials are taking action against those who throw garbage in Buddha Nullah. The other indoor drains will also be cleaned, ”added Rajinder Singh.
