Early stormwater drain cleaning ahead of monsoon

Vadodara: After the devastating floods of last year, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started the early cleaning of rainwater drains throughout the city.
With heavy machines, the citizens' body is working to ensure better readiness for the upcoming monsoon.
The cleaning processes include both large and small rainwater drains in areas such as galanagar, Boriya and Panchwati as well as the decisive drainage line that connects Darjipura Panjrapole with Ajwa Crossroads.
According to sources, VMC usually begins the monsoon effort in summer, but this year the work started as a precaution. Heavy machines from annual collective agreements are used for the task.
The efforts of the citizens' body before the monsoon have been in the lens in the past, especially after the recent floods. Selected representatives have often questioned the appropriateness of the preparations, and some of them have drawn flak because they personally monitored the work without involving the local council.
