Local entrepreneur Musawakhe Xaba has expanded his company, Musa’s Plumbing & General Construction, to 5 full-time employees since it was founded in 2014.
Musa (30) started the company after gaining experience with construction companies on the north coast.
The company was founded in Etete, where Xaba was born and raised. However, it has provided services as far as Nongoma and Durban.
“We are focused on the north coast but we will definitely travel if the job is worth it, even with the way the business has dried up over the past year,” he said.
Although the company grew steadily in its first few years of operation, it took a big step forward when it ended up being a finalist in the iLembe Chamber of Commerce’s entrepreneur competition in 2018.
Moses Phale (Operations Manager of the Avon Peaking Plant), Musawakhe Xaba (Musa Plumbers), Sakhile Khumalo (Ilembe Chamber of Commerce) and Zwelihle Mhlongo (Musa Plumbers).
This was coupled with the notoriety and direct access to opportunities for Musa’s Plumbing as they were added to a digital database where other local businesses could easily find their details.
“We’re in the database and a lot of people have called us from there. I think people trust us because they know that the iLembe chamber would not support us if we did a bad job, ”said Xaba.
However, 2020 is a challenge for Xaba as money is tight and people are more likely to wait for renovations rather than essential services, he said.
Things picked up again by the beginning of 2021 and a big boost in the form of a tool donation from Peakers Operations will only help the cause.
Xaba had completed work at the Avon Peaking Power Plant in the past and established a relationship with her team.
The donation includes a range of power tools, construction tools, and a generator that can prove essential in the event of a power outage in the workplace.
“We are very excited about this donation and will ensure that the tools are used wisely,” said Xaba.
