Rep. James Faleke (Ikeja Federal Constituency) on Friday distributed empowerment tools to 1,623 members of the constituency.
The distribution took place at the premises of the Lagos Television Authority, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
Tools such as tricycles, hair dryers, cordless hair clippers, power generators and grinders were provided to the beneficiaries.
Juicers, industrial sewing machines, freezers, cake mixers, plumbing tools, coolers, plastic chairs and tables were also distributed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that security personnel were at the scene to ensure maintenance of law and order.
Faleke said the only criteria to benefit from the empowerment was the presentation of voter ID card.
He said the empowerment was not limited to any particular party or tribe.
“The only criterion is to be a voter. You must be a registered voter with a voter ID card.
“Besides, it has nothing to do with your tribe, your religion or your beliefs,” he said.
The lawmaker, who is also chairman of the House Finance Committee, stressed the importance of civic responsibility.
He said President Bola Tinubu is committed to serving all Nigerians irrespective of their party affiliation or tribe.
He promised to reach more members of his constituency with empowerment programs.
He warned beneficiaries not to sell the tools, stressing the importance of using them to have a positive impact on communities.
He commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as remarkable.
Alhaja Olusola Kokumo, the APC Chairman in Ojodu Local Council Development Area, described Faleke as a gift from God.
“He did this before he was elected. He continues to support and contribute to improving the lives of members of this constituency.
A dealer and one of the beneficiaries,
Alhaja Muibat Ashiru praised Faleke for the gesture.
She prayed to God to bless him.
“I urge other lawmakers to emulate him,” she said.
Mr Alex Anetor, an indigene of Warri, Delta and a hairdresser who also benefited, told NAN that he was happy and grateful for the empowerment.
