Feds make ‘big bong bust’ after truck inspection

Earlier this month, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials said they discovered a large amount of “drug paraphernalia” at a border crossing in New York.

The incident occurred at the Alexandria Bay port of entry in Alexandria Bay, New York, on October 4, when officials’ interest was piqued by a CMV with a cargo that manifested itself as a “smoking glass ball water pipe,” CBP said in a message from October 16 with release.

After a non-intrusive imaging inspection, the CBP officers took a closer look at the cargo and found that “8 pallets of glass pipes and an illegal import of drug paraphernalia were discovered.”

The investigators also found that “the country of origin of the shipment contained marking errors and inaccuracies”.

A CBP import specialist examined the 2,412 glass pipes found on the truck and found that they were all drug paraphernalia.

The shipment of glass pipes and “bongs” valued at US $ 156,000 was confiscated on October 14 for “import violations”.

According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), the term drug paraphernalia means “any equipment, product, or material of any kind primarily Intended or designed for the manufacture, compounding, transformation, disguise, manufacture, processing, preparation, injection, ingestion, inhalation or other introduction into the human body of a controlled substance. “
