With heavy rain forecast, the municipality of Fondren has come together to clean storm drains in the area to reduce the risk of flooding. “One day I was just driving around and I noticed all these storm drains were blocked to the brim. “So I called Casey and said let's clean some storm drains,” said Jackson realtor Locke Ward. Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba addressed these issues and said he understands the needs of the community. “That's what I want.” “It's clear, I'm aware of the floods that are taking place, I've memorized them and we're finding solutions to each of these problems,” Lumumba said. These solutions don't come soon enough, as the Fondren community has taken matters into their own hands and cleaned nearly a hundred storm drains in the area in the last two weeks. All of this with donations from community residents in the hopes of restoring the area. “We're bringing sexy back, we're cleaning up Jackson, and I think everyone notices that,” said Casey Bridges, owner of Casey Can. “I want to be clear: I am aware of the floods, I have memorized them and we are finding solutions to every single one of these problems,” Lumumba said.
