Franklin County accepts bid for septic system for Sheriff’s Office

FARMINGTON – Franklin County commissioners voted 2-0 on Tuesday to accept an offer from an Augusta company to install a new sewage system in the sheriff’s office, human resources / administrative assistant Tiffany Baker said Wednesday.

Commissioner Terry Brann of Wilton and Commissioner Clyde Barker of Strong voted to approve the contract. Farmington Commissioner Lance Harvell was absent.

The district received three offers for the project. The contract was awarded to CCC Construction, which was available for $ 9,550, Baker said. Harris Septic Services of Chesterville offered $ 12,080 and Wayne’s CH Stevenson offered $ 16,025, she said.

The money is to be taken from the city’s share of the US rescue plan law. The county received approximately $ 2.9 million of the $ 5.86 million from the federal government. The other half is expected in 2022.

A septic system serves the sheriff’s office and the detention center.

Two more projects are being planned. One is to replace tanks and pumps in the existing prison system. It would only serve the prison. Another project is to disconnect the stormwater drain, according to Mike Pond County Road Inspector. Before he retired, Pond owned a sewage treatment installation company.

The commissioners also agreed to replace the damaged bridge deck on Schoolhouse Road in the municipality of Madrid. The county owns 211 feet of the road that ends before the bridge. The district has previously closed the road for winter maintenance. Nobody knows who owns the bridge, said Pond. The state says it doesn’t belong to the county, but local residents believe the county does.

For safety reasons, the commissioners agreed to replace the deck with new gangplanks and a bridge mat. Once the deck is ready, the commissioners plan to hand the bridge over to the residents for maintenance.
