Fuller Center makes home happen for local family

Nathan Adams and his daughter Lyndsay have endured some challenging times in recent years. “We live in an RV and it’s going to be cold,” he said.
Adams wanted a better life for himself and his daughter, who is a special needs person. Thanks to a local partner from a national philanthropic organization, this family will now have a home of their own; a 1,040 square foot two bedroom, two bathroom residence on a generous lot.

Retired builder Tom Rogers, a representative of the Fuller Center Nature Coast, a contractor of the Fuller Center for Housing, oversaw the construction of a home for Nathan and Lyndsay Adams in Weeki Wachee. January 11-13, the Fuller Center Bike Adventure Group (a volunteer branch of the Fuller Center) visited Weeki Wachee to support this very special construction project with community awareness, financial support and manual labor. “Nathan and Lyndsay are dear friends of mine at the Wildwood Christian Church in Weeki Wachee,” Rogers said. “This is a labor of love that involves some very special people.”

The Fuller Center for Housing is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing agency dedicated to eliminating impoverished housing around the world. By forming partnerships with local organizations, the Fuller Center provides structure, guidance, and support in building homes for those in need. The organization was founded in 2005 by Millard and Linda Fuller, founders of Habitat for Humanity. The Fuller Center has now grown to serve more than 90 communities and 19 countries around the world. Fuller has built more than 6,000 homes, all built in partnership with homeowners who put in sweaty hours and paid back the construction costs on their own terms. “Fuller hands up,” Rogers explained, “no handout.”

Rogers became involved with the Fuller Center four years ago when he helped initiate the housing project on behalf of his good friends Nathan and Lyndsay. “This project gave my life new meaning,” he said. “I love this work and after many delays, January 12th was the date we all worked together to build the walls for Nathan and Lyndsay’s new home and help make their dreams come true.”

This build was assisted by numerous volunteers, including representatives from Church in the Wildwood and bystanders who stopped to help, Nathan and Lyndsay Adams and members of the Fuller Center Bike Adventure Group; PJ the DJ provided entertainment and refreshments were served.
Neil Mullikin, a representative of the Fuller Center Bike Adventure Group, attended this build. He also rode bikes with other Georgia volunteers to participate in several previous Fuller builds in Weeki Wachee and Tallahassee.
“We are called of God to do this work,” Mullikin said. “It is a dream and a prayer come true to help these families. It changes the lives of the people we serve.” Nathan Adams agrees. He shared, “My daughter and I feel blessed, wonderful and grateful.”

Tom Rogers would like to thank the Christian Church in the Wildwood, the Fuller Center for Housing, the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure Group, Charlie’s Plumbing (which donated all the plumbing and labor needed for the project), AWS, Corbin’s Custom Designs (for taking the lead ). construction), ABC Warehouse and Owen Corning (for donating clapboards) and all the volunteers.
