GROHE boosts Ghanaian plumbing sector, trains 50 ATTC students under GIVE program for young installers

GROHE, a leading global brand for complete bathroom solutions and kitchen faucets, has trained its first 50 Ghanaian students as part of its GIVE program (Grohe Installer Vocational Training and Education).

Launched in a number of countries including Ghana, GROHE partnered with the Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC) in 2021 and set up its first fully operational training environment.

The first batch of 50 students from the GIVE program graduated on Friday, February 10th in a colorful ceremony in the school’s main hall.

The GIVE is designed to solve the problem of shortage of qualified plumbers in Ghana plumbing and plumbing industry.

Speaking at the event, Accra Technical Training Centre’s director, Mr Arko Dometey, noted that learning by solving real problems has made it a must for stakeholders to round out government efforts.

Part of the effort, he said, is providing training resources to improve the quality of instruction through the application of best teaching practices and training initiatives for trainers through school-industry collaborations such as those of GROHE and ATTC.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Grohe Training Academy for such wonderful support of the Accra Technical Training Centre. The center promises to use the resources extensively for the benefit of society.

“I will therefore encourage anyone interested in plumbing to choose an apprenticeship. On behalf of the board, management, staff and students of this noble center, I would like to congratulate all the trainees who have completed this training. Congratulations again.” Mr. Dometey, the Headmaster, added in recognition of the helpful initiative.

The program exposed the 50 learners to real-world plumbing-related problem-solving at different levels in six different training levels.

The training covers Grohe thermostats, the Grohe Rapido Smartbox system, Grohe installation systems, Grohe Sensia touchless fittings for showers and toilets, and Grohe single and two-hand mixers.

Speak with Modern Ghana News Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, one of the graduates, Douglas Ayitey, said that the program exposed him to new technologies that would support his zeal for a brighter future in engineering and also help him fit into any work environment.

For his part, Christopher Penney, Director of the GIVE program, LIXIL EMENA, said: “The curriculum of the GROHE GIVE program is hands-on and designed to teach students the specialties, sub-specialties and intricacies of plumbing. This will ensure they are able to install and maintain our growing range of products before embarking on their future careers in the plumbing industry.”

According to him, he is pleased “to see that our first 50 trainers have officially graduated in Ghana – a testament to our commitment to address the shortage of skilled plumbers in the plumbing industry, while giving back to society and giving young people an exciting start into their professional life to offer careers.”

With modern equipment, training materials and a written exam, the GIVE program creates a unified approach that will set new industry standards.

Supported by Invest for Jobs, an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the delegation of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK), the graduates received certificates and graduation packages with the most important equipment for the field.

Around five of the 50 trainees were recognized for their outstanding performance in the examination and were promised special treatment.
