IRON MOUNTAIN – A utility house is now open for professional contractors and home improvement professionals at 217 E. Ludington St. in downtown Iron Mountain.

Harry’s Plumbing & Heating Supply offers a wide variety of parts and equipment for a range of industrial applications including plumbing, heating, electrical and cooling.

Craig and Angela Harris, owners of Sikora Sheet Metal Inc. and CAH Rentals of Iron Mountain, bought the building in 2019, renovating every floor, and adding approximately $ 350,000 of inventory to the store front.

“There are other places in town that only deal with plumbing, heating and others that only deal with sheet metal and heating parts.” Craig Harris said. “We wanted to fill in the gaps to be wider.”

“They differ more in what they have” Angela Harris said.

Harry’s – named after Craig’s nickname in high school – is a shop to find something “Everything in our branch in one building” he said.

The store opened on December 15 following an announcement on Facebook.

“We wanted to do a slow, soft opening first,” he said. Craig said the addition of the silent premiere enabled them to set up and test their inventory system and pricing for the general public, contractors, and both Harry’s and Sikora employees.

The Harrises are planning a formal opening, although the coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult to pinpoint an exact date.

Business is good right now, said Craig.

“My biggest fear was that (Sikora) is a contractor and other contractors wouldn’t come here. That was not the case. “ Said Craig.

The Harrises have owned Sikora – opened by Frank Sikora in 1946 – for 4 1/2 years. The company services and installs ovens, boilers, air conditioners and more.

“Sikora’s Installations and Harry’s Supplies” Said Craig.

As an independent unit, Harry’s shares a parking lot with Sikora Sheet Metal, an additional benefit for the Harrises and their Sikora employees.

“It made sense for us to have our own supply house near Sikora so that all of our employees don’t have to walk around town.” Said Craig. “Makes it easier to share by the hour. We’re more able to get a broken furnace running in the middle of the night because we have all the parts here. “

The store should also be a central point of contact for homeowners.

“If a homeowner wants to install their own water heater, this is the place to go to buy the water heater, get the fixtures you need, and rent the plumbing tools you need yourself.” Said Craig, adding: “You can come here and buy a toilet, buy a faucet, get faucet repair parts, all that stuff without going to a big store.”

Owning multiple companies is hectic at times, but also fulfilling, said the Harrises.

“It’s a reward to know we did this” Said Angela. “This place started over, so it’s something to be proud of.”

“We grew fast” Said Craig. “We are very grateful for our good, hardworking employees. Without them, we definitely couldn’t do it. We are very honored. “

In the near future, Harry plans to offer delivery to contractors. The long-term goal, Craig said, is to keep up with industry standards in trading.

“Everything is constantly changing and evolving.” Said Craig.

Harry’s is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
