Hero plumber helps vulnerable with new community interest company Cafgas

A HERO plumber will once again help the weakest by turning the profits from his new business into a lifeline for thousands

Ex-soldier James Hunt founded Cafgas – the heating company with a social conscience.

Run as a Community Interest Company (CIC), it will pump money for charitable causes in North Wales and Cheshire, including feeding the homeless, reaching out to the lonely and disabled, and helping military service veterans.

Every penny of profit from commercial work that includes new bathrooms, installing, repairing and maintaining boilers, and issuing gas safety certificates is paid for the public relations work done by the internal community organization Nanny Biscuit.

Founded last month by James, a 41-year-old married father of three, Cafgas CIC has big ambitions.

James of Shotton said, “The vision is to become one of the largest plumbing and heating companies in the Northwest and North Wales within five years, with all profits helping the most vulnerable in our community: the homeless, the elderly, military service veterans and the hungry Familys. ”

Nanny Biscuit was founded in 2018 in memory of James’ grandmothers Jean Simmonds and Else Hunt who snuck biscuits for him when he was young.

Since the pandemic started, Nanny Biscuit and his army of 50 volunteers have helped thousands of elderly, vulnerable or struggling people in North Wales and beyond.

They have provided hundreds of grocery packages from their community center warehouse, made hundreds of phone calls on the phone line, provided 30,000 meals for the homeless, and organized socially distant music concerts for nursing homes.

Their “Big Week in Wales” national fundraiser was endorsed by Deputy Secretary Jane Hutt and Game of Throne star Jerome Flynn, as well as a number of Welsh athletes and celebrities.

James said, “We have helped people whose food cupboards were completely empty during the lockdown, including a man who hadn’t eaten in three days. That’s why we want to future-proof the good work that Nanny Biscuit has been doing over the years and decades by financing it with Cafga’s CIC profits.

“When someone gets a plumber from Cafgas CIC to fix a leaky kettle or put in a new washing machine, the customer is giving back to their local community because their bill helps pay for the wide range of brilliant publicity that Nanny Biscuit does for seven days long works week at no cost to her.

“In addition to serving domestic customers, we see great potential for rental agents, buy-to-investors and housing associations, as hiring Cafgas CIC for their plumbing, gas safety certificates and maintenance is a simple corporate social responsibility (CSR) win for them. ”

James qualified as a plumber in 1999 and served six years in the Mercian Regiment before being medically discharged for an injury sustained on duty.
