New book reports on the experiences of a plumber
A plumber and heating installer has published a new book in which she talks about her experiences in the profession.
The book titled Pipe Dream: Chasing A Man's Job is an autobiography by Jennie Jones.
Jennie, a former journalist, retrained as a plumber at the age of 38. She has been running her own heating and plumbing company in Weymouth for eight years. This was after studying for four years at her local college and training with a local housing association.
Throughout her plumbing career, she never stopped writing, and the notes she took formed the backbone of her insightful new book.
Speaking about the book's release, Jennie said: “When I started doing plumbing work, I felt very lonely as the only woman at college and in my job. I would have liked to have had other women to talk to. It would have been nice to exchange them.” Telling stories, sharing advice and having role models for other, more advanced craftswomen, I felt out of place and wasn't sure if I should be there to give myself reassurance that wasn't the case.
“I was looking for a book like mine but couldn't find anything. So here is the book I wanted, written for the version of myself all those years ago and also for other women like me.”
The book is available from November 15th in paperback and e-book from www.amazon.co.uk.
