HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – The Kitchen Cops have turned in more than 300 scores from across north Alabama this week, and we found some unusual violations in those reports.
We’ll start in Madison County, where one of those bizarre demerits was issued at New China Cafe in Hazel Green. Inspectors say that one of the sinks was unusable because there was “No pipe connected to wall” and that “water immediately spills out onto floor.” The report also noted cooked chicken being stored in a cardboard box that previously held raw chicken. That food had to be thrown out. There were also multiple food temperature problems. The New China Cafe ends up with a final score of 78.
The lowest score in Madison County this week is at the Super Value Grocery store on Wall Triana in Harvest. It gets a 74 thanks to black and green residue on cheese in the cooler, milk and cheese at the wrong temperature, a dirty ice machine and no soap in a restroom.
Hildegard’s makes its second appearance in Kitchen Cops in the past few weeks. It was hit with a 71 back in November. The score this time is modestly higher at 79. The most recent inspection found no chlorine sanitizer in the dishwasher, butter at the wrong temperature and employees without health training paperwork.
The final score in Madison County that didn’t meet the state’s passing grade is the Zaxby’s on North Memorial Parkway, near University Drive. It got an 84 due to pots and pans improperly stored in a sink, no soap at another sink, cracked plastic serving containers and cole slaw at the wrong temperature.
