The City of Lambertville has received a $40,000 grant from the Hunterdon County Commissioners to purchase a state-of-the-art sewer inspection camera system.
The grant check was presented to Mayor Andrew Nowick by Hunterdon County Commissioner Jeff Kuhl and Deputy Director Susan Soloway and attended by City Council members. In attendance were Council President Benedetta Lambert, Councilman Steven Stegman, Councilman Evan Lide and Councilwoman Karen Kominsky.
“Hunterdon County’s community grant program provides critical funding to improve infrastructure and ensure communities are resilient and well-prepared for the future. The new sewer inspection camera system will improve the City’s ability to monitor and maintain sewer lines and ensure that Lambertville remains a safe, clean and well-maintained community for all of its residents,” Kuhl said.
The funding is part of a larger initiative announced at the Aug. 20 commissioners meeting that provided $1 million in community infrastructure grants to all 26 municipalities in the county.
Under the competitive grant program, Hunterdon County communities vied for a share of the funds, with applications totaling nearly $2.5 million.
The city plans to use advanced camera technology to enhance the capabilities of its public works department. The new equipment will enable more precise inspections of sewer lines, helping to detect and repair problems such as clogs, leaks and structural damage before they lead to more costly repairs and potential environmental hazards, officials said.
The application process included a review by third-party consultants from HFA Accountants & Financial Advisors and T&M Associates, who highlighted the fierce competition for available funds.
