Motorists and bus commuters are being advised of possible disruption during a period of “urgent sewer repair works” on a section of the Shore Road in north Belfast.

A Northern Ireland Water spokesperson explained the programme of works to be carried out near the McDonald's branch opposite Fortwilliam Park from Monday 12 August, saying: “There will be a one-way road closure from Fortwilliam Park for approximately three weeks.”

“Access to McDonald's and all other shops on Shore Road between the city centre and McDonald's is only possible by car heading towards land. For safety reasons, the footpath in front of McDonald's must be closed.

“A number of city-bound bus stops on Shore Road between Fortwilliam Park and Skegoneill Avenue will be inaccessible during these works. A dedicated shuttle bus will serve the Skegoneill Fortwilliam Crescent, Skegoneill York Drive and Skegoneill Seaview stops.

“The shuttle bus operates Monday to Saturday from 6am to 10pm and Sundays from 9am to 9pm. It stops in Mount Vernon and travels along Fortwilliam Park, Somerton Road and Skegoneill Avenue before rejoining Shore Road and serving the remaining stops between Skegoneill Avenue and York Street.

“A diversion route for motorists will be clearly signposted.”

The spokesman added: “Following this repair, we will plan a sewer lining programme in the wider Shore Road area. These measures will provide a more resilient sewer network and help reduce the likelihood of sewer collapses, blockages and flooding in the surrounding area.”

“We will keep businesses, residents and the wider public informed about this work programme.”
