The McLaren Artura is an impressive supercar, but it was a bit of a problem child for the brand. The automaker has already been the subject of a few recalls and now has to fix another bug related to a fuel leak.

The good news is that the issue is relatively limited in nature, affecting only 269 Arturas manufactured between July 17, 2022 and November 15, 2023. These examples, sold as 2023-2024 model year vehicles, had defective fuel lines from one of McLaren’s subcontractors.

In fact, in its investigation of the problem, the automaker discovered that the low-pressure fuel lines were all extruded in a single day and in a period of just one hour. It’s not entirely clear what happened back then, but the pieces that left the factory were inconsistent in thickness.

Due to the manufacturing defect, not all pipes meet McLaren specifications and in some cases perform worse in “burst strength tests” than pipes that left the factory as parts of different batches.

Ultimately, this can cause the low pressure fuel line to come loose and cause gas to leak. Since the part is located near parts of the Artura that are quite hot, there is concern that this error could lead to a fire.

Fortunately, McLaren is not aware of any fires caused by this problem. However, there have been nine cases where the pipe came loose and fuel leaked, so this remains a serious safety risk.

For this reason, McLaren plans to contact owners and ask them to return their vehicles to a nearby dealer where a technician will replace the low pressure fuel line assembly. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear when this process will begin. Meanwhile, owners of affected vehicles may experience a fuel smell or a warning light on the dashboard if their Artura is affected by this issue.
