Local Plumber Replaces Pipe Lining Pro Bono In Hamilton Home Where His Great-Grandfather First Installed Pipes 102 Years Ago

HAMILTON, Ontario, July 9, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Birnie Sanitary and Wastewater Technology is intended to replace the lining of a house in Hamilton where founder John Birnie first installed the pipeline in 1922. Rob Birnie, CEO and great-grandson of John Birnie, has original documents and drawings from his great-grandfather showing one of the first plumbing jobs ever completed by the company he now runs. The work will be completed on July 17 and will be available to the new owner at no cost as a tribute to his more than a century of commitment to the community.

CHCH Morning Live will be on site with Rob and his plumbing team at 40 Graham Avenue North in the Crown Point neighborhood on July 17, 2024. Birnie Plumbing and Drains will use their new minimally invasive method to install the brand new liner. Trenchless technology allows new pipes to be installed without having to dig up your yard. Rob reflects on how far innovations in plumbing have come and celebrates how his family has been involved in the development of the industry: “My great grandfather John Birnie used bamboo sticks to clean drains in the 1920s. In the 1940s my grandfather Thos Birnie was the first in Hamilton to own an electric sewer cleaning machine. And now in the 1990s my father and uncle Bob and Roy Birnie were the first in Hamilton to introduce the Canadian made trenchless sewer lining solution. We have been at the forefront of the latest cutting edge technology over the years!” Rob will be joined by his father Bob Birnie (3rd generation) and son Tyler Birnie (5th generation) as this service is performed at this historic Hamilton home.

Although Birnie Plumbing & Drains has come a long way since their one-truck business in the 1920s, their principles have remained the same.

  • High customer service
People are as much of a priority for us as plumbing! This has been at the core of the company since its inception and has been passed down from generation to generation. You could say it's the reason the company has lasted so long. “The Hamilton Spectator once wrote an article about my grandfather that said, 'He didn't make customers, he made friends.' That tradition continues in our family and company to this day,” says Rob, as he discusses the longevity of their strong focus on customer service.
  • 5-star service
You can find over 1000 reviews on Google and read rave statements about top-notch customer service, quality workmanship, and quick response times. Although Birnie Plumbing & Drains strives to be the best company in the industry, it's clear that many in the community already feel this way.
  • Quality work that lasts
Their policy is to never cut corners! From high-quality materials to the way they look after their staff and customers, it's obvious that Birnie Plumbing & Drains is focused on quality. Proof of the longevity of their work lies underground at the Graham Ave North home, where the original pipe lining installed has survived all the changes above.
