Low water pressure or discoloration across Ithaca due to water main break

A “major water main break” on Wednesday morning has left a swath of the City of Ithaca with low water pressure or discolored water. The break occurred near Taughannock Boulevard and West Buffalo Street, near the Dandy Mini Mart in Ithaca’s west end.

Areas with low or discolored water include City of Ithaca water service customers on Ithaca’s west hill, in Downtown Ithaca, and in other portions of the flats.

Once the repair is completed, flushing the system could result in brown or rusty water in homes and businesses. Avoid using hot water until your water runs clear, to avoid drawing sediment into your hot water heater.

Crews are working in the area of the main water break. Expect traffic delays in the area.

updated: Late Wednesday morning, the City of Ithaca said they expect repairs to take until Friday. “Businesses and residents in the West Hill and Downtown/ flats areas will be impacted with low pressure and discoloration periodically throughout the course of the repair.”
