USA: Man beaten to death by pack of dogs on West Side
An 80-year-old man has died after being beaten to death by three Staffordshire bull terriers in a “horrific” dog attack.
Emergency services were called to the west side San Antonio, Texas, on Friday afternoon amid reports of an elderly man being dragged by violent dogs.
Firefighters had to use their pickaxes and pipes to try to get the dogs off the pensioner.
An elderly woman was bitten on the hand and two others were injured trying to help the man after seeing him in distress across the street.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said in a statement: “As they turned the corner, they could see a man being pulled by a dog.
“He was completely bloodied before they got out of the truck.
The fire brigade had to use their pickaxes to free the dogs(
“It’s not normal for us. Normally, we don’t have to defend patients from animals or ourselves.
“The firefighters were very heroic in this case, fighting these dogs with pickaxes and pipes to try and get to the patients.
“‘Two people were ill-treated with one confirmed death who was treated at the scene and blood administered, along with a woman in critical condition. Another person was bitten on the hand and also taken to the hospital.
“It was a horrific scene and a horrific experience for everyone involved, including the firefighters who were essentially a rescue to save themselves.”

A San Antonio firefighter was bitten in the leg by the dogs when he arrived to help the elderly man.
According to official information, however, he is said to be making a full recovery.
Fire Chief Charles Hood has not confirmed whether the pet owners will be charged, but claimed it is likely.
He revealed the “emotionally scarred” experience affected crew members.
Police say the owners are facing charges(
Mr Hood said: “Nobody expects to go out and fight dogs in a situation like today.”
Neighbors had previously reported their concerns to police after a complaint was made back in 2021.
A neighbor had to be treated after a “light bite” from one of the dogs.
Neighbors also claimed the pets were aggressive and often neglected for hours.
Since the attack, the dogs have been quarantined by the San Antonio Animal Care Service.
The three dogs, who were outside the property at the time of the incident, will be euthanized, city officials said.
