Teresa Roche, deputy chair of the IFA National Farm Family and Social Affairs, welcomed the new grant to repair or replace existing septic tanks.
Minister Darragh O’Brien announced that the grant for the repair, modernization or replacement of septic tanks would be increased to a maximum of €12,000 from January 1, 2024.
It was also announced that the requirement that the septic tank be registered with the local authority before February 1, 2013 would be removed.
“These changes will result in more households becoming eligible for this grant and receiving assistance in upgrading or replacing their septic tanks,” said Teresa Roche.
“Many households struggle with the costs of upgrading or replacing older septic tanks. The costs can be significant and this increase in subsidies is very welcome as it will help ease the financial burden on households,” she added.
“This will not only reduce the financial burden on households, but also help reduce the risk of environmental damage caused by defective tanks,” concluded Teresa Roche.
