North Country communities get water infrastructure funding

Several northern communities are receiving millions of dollars in federal grants for critical water and wastewater projects. These projects are part of a larger New York City initiative to replace and build better water infrastructure.

About $9 million will go to the cities of DeKalb, Moriah, Webb and Louisville for wastewater and drinking water projects.

The City of De Kalb will receive $3,805,500 in grants and $2,144.50 in funding to plan, design and construct a wastewater treatment plant and improve the collection system.

The City of Moriah will receive $3,577,469 in grant funds and $6,786,498 in funding to plan, design and build upgrades to the collection system.

The City of Webb will receive $470,683 in grants and $2,412,046 in funding to plan, design and build upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant.

The city of Louisville, near Massena, will receive $1,213,215 in grants and $1,409,471 in funding to replace all five existing old filters with a new ultrafiltration treatment system, including associated controls and SCADA upgrades at the water treatment plant.

And the communities of Malone, Ogdensburg and Potsdam received funding to inventory lead pipes in their local water systems.
