A few days after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) ordered cleaning of drains by May 10, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) also directed the contractors to complete the work before May 20.
As the city prepares for the monsoon season, both the authorities are ensuring that the work is completed on time before the monsoon.
PCMC Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil on Saturday directed that if there are any obstacles in the drain cleaning work, the concerned officials and employees should discuss the same with their superiors and resolve the problems. “In locations where it is not possible to clean drains with JCB, Poklen and Spider machines, or in narrow drains, drains should be cleaned using safety devices. Also, photos should be taken before and after cleaning and a cleaning report should be prepared.” “Clogged drains, encroachments on or in the drain and reduced width of the drain should lead to action against the affected persons,” he directed.
Imp of pre-monsoon work
The monsoon begins in the first week of June. When monsoon begins, there are difficulties in cleaning the drains, so it is necessary to clean all the drains before the monsoon begins. Around 148 small and large drains were laid across all eight regional offices. A review meeting was organized at the Late Mayor Madhukar Pawle's Auditorium at the Municipal Corporation's Head Office Building in Pimpri to review the drain cleaning work.
Officials and employees of the departments concerned were present at this meeting.
“The affected persons should directly inspect the drains where problems occur during cleaning and correct the problems. The health department should be informed about the daily drain cleaning work,” he added.
Patil has directed to properly clean drains in low lying areas and remove all silt from large and small drains so that rainwater can drain better.
