Police are looking for two people posing as plumbers who are now wanted in connection with a home robbery and nightly torture and assault of two residents in the Wakefield part of the county.

According to a February 25 statement by the NYPD, the incident began at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 22, near East 227 Street and Barnes Avenue. Police said a 28-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were in the house when two men knocked on the door saying they were there to “fix the water pipes.”

The NYPD statement read in part: “The two men walked into the apartment, showed a gun, tied up both victims and asked for money.” The 28-year-old man sustained a head injury and burns to his back after the couple tortured him with a hot iron.

Police reported that the intruders later fell asleep and the 28-year-old victim was able to break free and flee the house and call the police. 47th district officials reacted quickly and found the two suspects and the second victim were no longer there. Police say the second victim was eventually found and the thieves escaped with a cell phone and $ 2,000 in cash.

Police released a photo from a house surveillance video showing the two suspects who entered the house. Both men wore matching black pants and shoes, as well as matching official-looking, highly visible, bright yellow vests, face masks, and black hooded jackets.
