PHOTOS: Clogged storm drains worsen flood risks in Seoul

SEOUL, June 28 (AJU PRESS) – The bustling Gangnam district in southern Seoul is notorious for its recurring floods during the annual monsoon season. Aside from geographical factors, experts point to a more easily manageable problem: clogged sewers.

Experts argue that drains filled with debris significantly reduce the drainage efficiency of the area. Garbage and leaves clog the system and increase the risk of flooding during heavy rains.

Of particular concern is the frequent disposal of cigarette butts in storm drains by smokers. The city has taken preventive measures to stop this behavior and ensure the functionality of the sewage system.
