The water treatment business is nothing new to Roy and Donna Barticciotto as they operate over a hundred systems of the same size in New York for CEMCO water and wastewater specialists, as we do here on the island. Commuting a few times a month became a way of life for Roy until the couple decided to stay full-time and open their own water treatment and pool supply store on Stringfellow Road.
When the opportunity arose to buy the Wells Fargo Bank building, Barticciotto thought it was a great idea. According to his Donna, her husband really saw this as an opportunity to do something good for Pine Island.
“People really seemed to want a pool supply store,” She said. “We had no plan to open a pool shop, it just seemed like a referendum.”
Since pool accessories aren’t something the couple are familiar with, they admit they are taking a leap in confidence and trying to learn more about the business, and even sell life jackets, kayaks, and paddleboards. Regarding water treatment for their clients, the couple said they don’t plan any of the installations but sell the equipment and encourage clients to use local island plumbers for the installation as they believe islanders should take advantage of local business and support each other whenever possible.
“We want to sell filtration systems for the whole house.” said Barticciotto. “The units we are selling will remove a whole range of chemicals like iron and lead. We have a sample here and encourage people to come in and have a drink for a taste comparison. “
The filtration system, said the couple, is not just for a kitchen tap, but for the entire house. The Barticciottos are also deeply committed to helping service staff on the island by wholesaling items such as bleach and saving locals a trip from the island.
“We live here,” said donna, “We want to be part of the community and the solution for everything that happens here.”
The Barticciottos emphasize that they have extra space that they are happy to use to meet the needs of the community, e.g. B. hosting events and causes in real island style. The ATM on the property will remain, as many have asked. The grand opening of the store will take place on April 17th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with food and freebies available.
“We are so in love with the island” said Donna. “The beauty and feel of old Florida. The community response has been so pleasant and supportive. We are very grateful for that. We have already built a lot of relationships and really just want to be part of the island. “
