Plan in the works to convert 1,100 septic systems in Golden Gate City

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Collier County executives are working on a plan to convert 1,100 sewage treatment plants in Golden Gate City. The plan also includes addressing rainwater issues and adding walkways and lighting.

“Golden Gate City is a very large, densely populated city, much of which has well water and septic tanks,” said County Commissioner Penny Taylor. “The properties, especially in single-family houses, are close together. That’s a recipe for a big problem. These are health, safety and social issues. “

Taylor said the huge project could take 15 to 20 years to complete. The estimated cost is approximately $ 150 million, depending on the phase and funding plans.

“Every few years you have to pump it and so on, and you have a great responsibility to look after your home and then do it. It’s a lot, ”said Hazel Cesar.

Others think it is cheaper to leave things as they are. Several neighbors said they had no problems with their septic tanks because they keep them in good condition.

The plan is still in the drafting phase. As soon as it is ready, it will be sent to the district officers.
