Manitoba intends to update the province’s building, sanitation, fire and energy codes to the latest national model “as soon as is practicable.”

The aim is to switch to the new codes six months earlier than necessary.

“Following feedback from industry and other stakeholders, our government has decided to adopt the 2020 national standards, bypassing the 2015 spending to give these professionals ample time to become familiar with the 2020 Codes,” said the Minister for Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services Reg Helwer.

As of now, the province is equipped with the 2010 editions for the building, plumbing and fire codes, while the energy code is currently on the 2011 model.

The release states that skip the 2015 model and go straight to the 2020 edition are preferred by industry experts.
