RM174mil allocated for pipe replacement works

The Selangor government has allocated RM 174 million for the next year under the state pipe replacement program, which aims to improve the quality of the state’s water supply.

Izham Hashim, chairman of the Selangor Infrastructure and Public Facilities Committee for Agriculture Modernization and the chairman of the Agro-Based Industry Committee, said the cost would include the planning, construction management and construction for the pipe replacement work.

“Between 2017 and 2019, the State of Air Selangor allocated 248.7 million RM to carry out the work.

“In October, the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya was 28.5% and we expect this value to drop to 28% by the end of this year.

“In comparison, the nationwide NRW value last year was 36.4%,” he replied to a question from Lee Kee Hiong (PH-Kuala Kubu Baru).

Izham said they hope to achieve a reduction of at least 1% every year in NRW, with a target of 25% by 2025.

During the submission of the state budget last week, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that pipe replacement work is being carried out, which is an estimated 6,000 km. PPP), for which the causer of the contamination would have to pay the price.

To address flooding in the state, Amirudin said they had proposed allocating RM 9.25 million for flood protection projects in the catchment areas of the Sungai Langat, Sungai Klang and Sungai Selangor rivers.

He said this would go along with the federal allocation to provide a holistic solution to flooding.
