Ruptured pipe leaves Navelim locals without potable water | Goa News

Margao: The water pipe of the public building authority (PWD) in Colmorod, Navelim, burst again on Thursday, leaving the residents of the area without drinking water.
The overflowing water caused by the break of the 200 mm pipeline, which was laid 40 years ago, has worsened the condition of the road.
“These failures in the water supply have become an everyday phenomenon, and the authorities hardly care about people’s needs. This is a big breakdown. The street is likely to become another nightmare for local residents, ”said Savio Coutinho, former chairman of Margao municipal council.
By late evening, workers were unable to locate the damaged section of the pipeline. PWD sources said the repairs will be carried out on Friday.
“We had previously asked the contractor about the reasons for the repeated rupture of the pipeline. And to this day, the only excuse we get is that the pipeline is old. But we don’t seem to be getting adequate justification as to why the people affected are not making an effort to replace the old and outdated pipeline, ”said Coutinho.
Local residents Rajesh Kerkar, Agostinho Gama, Xavier Andrade, Abhishek Sapte, Hakim Rawaltar and Coutinho demanded that the pipeline be replaced immediately if it is unsuitable.
“We hoped that local MLA Digambar Kamat would do something about replacing the pipeline, knowing full well that it would cause repeated mishaps that cause trouble for the public. Now that his term is over, we can only count on a promise for the next term, ”said Gama.
