KOTA KINABALU (Jan 9): Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew commended the newly formed Sabah Plumbers Association for its initiative to celebrate World Plumbers Day on February 16 this year.

She said her ministry will support this inaugural event from the perspective of environmental cleanliness and environmental protection.

“It is a very timely step to sensitize the public on the importance of proper plumbing to save water and prevent leaks. The association is doing the right thing to educate young people about water conservation and other related topics while they are still in school.

“In this way, students will learn to recognize the real need to use water responsibly,” she said after a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Sabah Plumbers Association led by its president Carmen Wong on Wednesday.

Wong said the program of the event will include participation of school children in a drawing competition where they can express their ideas on water purity, protection and hygiene.

In his briefing, SP Teo, chairman of the event organization, said World Sanitation Day is a global event celebrated on March 11 every year to highlight the important role of sanitation in health and environmental protection.

Speaking on the occasion of World Plumbing Day celebrations in Sabah, he said there would be two events at the Sabah Hakka Complex on February 16: a Plumbing Fair with 45 stalls to promote their products and services in the morning and a World Plumbing Dinner Night.

“We invite speakers from various government agencies and the private sector to deliver talks on related topics as part of the program,” Teo said.

Also present were Sabah Plumbers Association advisor YC Chong and committee members Caleb Tseu and Kendy Yeong.
