Sanitary sewer repair project, water main flushing in Mason City

MASON CITY, Iowa (KTTC) — Drivers in Mason City should expect some traffic disruptions as repairs to a sewer line begin.

Starting Monday, South Carolina Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets Southeast will be closed for approximately two weeks due to construction.

Additionally, a “Stop, Please Alternate” sign will close the southbound lane of South Kentucky Avenue for construction. 6th Place Southeast and Kentucky Court will also be closed. The city says these will be closed for about a week.

And in the northeast part of Mason City, the Water Department will flush water mains in an area east of Federal Avenue and north of Highway 122. Flushing will continue through September 27.

Residents may notice a discoloration of the water after flushing, but the water company says the water is safe.

During these two weeks, the public is asked not to park near or across from a fire hydrant.
