Sanitation Staff: 4 die in septic tank tragedy in Chandauli district | Varanasi News

Varanasi: At least four people, including three paramedics, died due to suffocation in a septic tank of a house in Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar (Mughalsarai) in Chandauli district late on Wednesday evening. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked Chandauli district officials to provide all help to the families of the deceased. District Magistrate Chandauli Nikhil T Funde and SP Anil Kumar reached the spot. Financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh was assured to the family of each deceased while Rs 10,000 was given as emergency cremation assistance. Circle officer PDDU Nagar Aniruddh Singh said on Thursday morning that a Bharat Jaiswal of New Mahal area under Mughalsarai police station had hired some sanitation workers to clean his private septic tank. The sanitation workers started work around 2 a.m. But as they entered the septic tank pit, all three sanitation workers – Vinod Rawat (35), Kundan (40) and Loha (23) from Kalimohal – fell unconscious one by one due to the presence of poisonous gas inside. Seeing it, Jaiswal's son Ankur (23) also jumped into the tank to save her but also fell unconscious. Some locals somehow rescued them with the help of a rope and took them to a local hospital where two of them were declared dead while two others died during treatment, Singh said. All the bodies were sent for autopsy by the police. The CM took note of the incident on Thursday morning and asked officials to reach the spot and meet the family members. He called on officials to ensure necessary treatment for all those injured and provide all assistance if necessary. The DM and the SP met the families of the deceased medical staff and Jaiswal. ADM (Finance) Abhay Pandey said that as an emergency relief, Rs 10,000 was given to each family for cremation while financial assistance of four lakh rupees was assured to the family of each deceased. Since the families of the two paramedics did not have a bank account, the process was initiated to open an account to transfer the aid.
