Councilor Tarsem Lakhotra, who quit AAP again after he was not given the post of deputy mayor, reached the MC office today with a complaint. It was Mayor Vaneet Dhir's first introductory meeting with MC officials. Lakhotra, speaking to The Tribune, claimed that the work involved in cleaning the drains was shifted to another station while the workers were already busy cleaning them. “I think they did that because I left the party again and am now an independent councilor,” he said.
Lakhotra said he spoke to the XEN, who assured him that labor would return to his ward by tomorrow morning. “I’ll see if they come back or not,” he said.
Lakhotra had quit the Congress to join the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Jalandhar West election for better prospects. However, he was upset when his name appeared on the first AAP list of District No. 46, but his name was dropped in the subsequent list that appeared five hours later. The ticket was given to Rajneesh Bhagat instead.
So he decided to contest the elections as an independent and won by a large margin.
After winning the MC elections, he rejoined the AAP but after failing to be appointed as deputy mayor, he quit again.
“I was told that I would be appointed deputy mayor, but that didn’t happen and I resigned from the party,” he said.
